Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Designers, Ottawa, ON

We are seeking Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Designers specializing in the design, integration, and commissioning of systems relating to gas turbine test facilities for an initial 6 month contract. 

General Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Designer are to assist in the design and selection of mechanical components and to generate engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and other applicable standards. 

Specific Departmental or Project Duties

  • Perform mechanical design of systems/components and component selection
  • Provide design input and recommendations
  • Prepare Detail, Welding / Machining, and Mechanical Assembly Drawings.
  • Prepare Facility Layout, Structures & Building sketches and drawings.
  • Responsible for drawing presentation, accuracy and determining sufficient level of detail required to facilitate manufacture.
  • Maintain drawing consistency with others in the department.
  • Understand drawing configuration and revisions, including proper file administration during drawing development.
  • Ensure that internal drawing generation and control procedures are followed.
  • Create and maintain project history folder
  • Report progress status to supervisor.

Supervisory Duties

  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate design staff as required

Qualifications

  • Good working knowledge of 2D drawing and 3D modeling is required. Competency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical design, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • In depth knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, welding and machining symbols, and geometric tolerances is essential.

Experience in the field of gas turbine testing shall also be considered an asset.

Education Requirements: 

Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent experience
